About St George Orthodox Church

The first liturgical service of the Orthodox church was conducted in the Holy Trinity Church on 30 Nov 1947 by His Grace Most Rev. Mar Theodosius, the Metropolitan of Quilon. The congregation was subsequently named as St George Orthodox Church, Bangalore. Post- Independence the population of Syrian Christians in Bangalore grew & therefore new Orthodox congregations branched off from the mother church.

At the dawn of the new millennium, the existing members of the St George Orthodox Church under the stewardship of Very Rev. C M Philipose Cor-Episcopa Remban & with the blessing of the Diocesan Bishop His Grace Dr Yakob Mar Irenios decided to construct our own church in Indiranagar, doing away with sharing the premises of the Holy Trinity Church.

Towards the fulfillment of our cherished goal, a piece of land measuring 5000 sq ft was acquired in the vicinity of the ESI Hospital in Indiranagar in the year 2002. Our efforts fortified only because of the abundant gesture of goodwill shown by friends & partners from far & near and the spirit of service towards the cause displayed by the members of the congregation made it possible within a short span of time.

The foundation of the church building was laid on 11/05/2003 by the Diocesan Bishop H. G Dr. Yakob Mar Irenaios. The church complex consisting of the Main Church on the 2nd floor, parsonage, a hall on the 1st floor with modern facilities like lift & basement parking was completed in 2005 and consecrated on 23/04/2005 & 23/04/2005 by Dr. Yakob Mar Irenaios & Dr. Zachariah Mar Theophilus

In 2010, the parish was elevated as a Georgian Pilgrim Centre by HH Baselios Marthoma Didymus I seventh Catholicos of the East in Malankara.
